Our team is made up of a diverse, experienced group of professionals whose talents and skill are unsurpassed in our industry.
Our History
Since opening our doors, Rockford has consistently measured ourselves and our projects against a vision of building a better world. We’ve grown and expanded our offerings by considering how best we can make a meaningful impact and help those we serve, from our team to our clients to our communities. This approach defines our history.
1987
Rockford is founded in Grand Rapids, Michigan with a vision to revitalize the region through philanthropy, strategic local partnerships and community engagement.
1992
Rockford receives its first Meijer contract for a remodel of the supermarket chain’s Jenison, Michigan store. Rockford’s relationship with Meijer has since grown to more than 450 completed projects throughout the Midwest.
1995
Rockford Development Group is established.
1996
Rockford Property Management is established.
1997
Rockford grows to over 100 team members.
1998
Inc. 500 names Rockford to its list of fastest-growing companies.

1998
Rockford begins developing and constructing more than 750,000 sq. ft. of space in downtown Grand Rapids’ Arena District, sparking a new era of long-term growth in the city.
2007
ENR names Rockford as a Top 50 Green Contractor in the nation.
2011
Rockford expands into Florida, opening an office location in Estero, FL.
2013
Rockford moves its headquarters to a long-vacant manufacturing building on Grand Rapids’ West Side and converts the space into a LEED Platinum office. The move helps breathe new life into the neighborhood by way of further projects, including a diverse mix of residential units, restaurants, offices and a new urban food market.
2017
Rockford’s Detroit office location opens.
2024
Rockford named to the Best and Brightest Places to Work for the 25th consecutive year.
2025
Rockford Construction rebrands to Rockford, encompassing all services of construction, development and property management.
