Through a Design-Build approach, Rockford connected two existing facilities with a 63,000 sq. ft. conventional steel framed building and a 8,500 sq. ft. Gantry crane addition. With different roof types and varying elevations (which meant challenging foundation work), combined with an operational facility throughout construction, Rockford delivered this multiphase project two months ahead of schedule. Rockford had also previously completed an expansion to the existing facility that included one, 1,600-ton press while operations were in full swing. BIM (Building Information Modeling) Level 350 was utilized to coordinate new construction with the existing facility. Structural steel, underground footings, foundations and fire suppression systems were carefully coordinated and tied-in to existing systems. Detailed logistics, stormwater control and schedule efficiencies resulted in a project that added an additional press, 50,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space and support spaces, expanding capabilities for this Tier 1 auto supplier.
