For roughly two decades, the Jim Crow Museum has told the story of the African American experience from as early as the 1830s, to the Jim Crow era of the 1870s through the 1960s, up to recent times with the prevalence of the Black Lives Matter movement of the 2020s. The museum houses contemporary racist and anti-black artifacts, including photography, objects and printed material, all utilized to educate museum patrons of the history of racism in America. With the collection growing to over 14,000 items, the museum's new facility encompasses exhibit space, reflection space, visitor recording capture space, archives, research center and artifact storage space.
