Rockford completed a 13,000 sq. ft. shipping dock building addition for Meijer that also included a new battery charging building. The addition required a temperature of 28F while tying into an existing 10 below zero high-bay freezer. This effort required tapping into the existing ammonia refrigeration system and installing four new hanging evaporators to ensure temperature control. The team also installed a new heated glycol system under the building slab to prevent the floor subgrade from freezing.
To build the addition, all public utilities had to be relocated - Building Information Modeling (BIM) was utilized to model the existing underground utilities, new utilities and aggregate piers. Clash detection was also deployed to avoid underground collisions. The project also consisted of a new storm retention pond and new employee parking lot.
