Formerly home to the historic Berkey & Gay Furniture Co. power plant, Rockford transformed the 100-year-old building into Grand Rapids’ newest “dinnertainment” venue. The two-story venue features a custom-crafted bar, a 168-seat restaurant, private dining, five bocce ball courts, terrace, outdoor dining, staging kitchen, a recreation room with billiards, darts and more, a 1,400-person venue and a heated indoor parking garage, blending historic elements with carefully selected finishes and modern amenities. The age of the building presented our team with several unforeseen conditions. The large walls necessary for the building’s former days as a power plant required significant structural work to achieve the new overall layout. Through a design-assist, our team helped coordinate the many custom elements throughout the space, including rare and globally sourced materials, such as the bocce ball flooring that was flown in from Italy and the first-of-its-kind bocce ball elevator from China. Furthermore, the First Cut Millwork team led the millwork package, creating custom pieces like the main bar, dessert/coffee bar, radial seating, bathroom counter tops, host stand and more.
