Senior Living Trends: Beacon Hill at Eastgate

From independent to assisted living and skilled care to memory care, Rockford understands the specialized nature of senior living communities. Often, our work must be completed around existing residents without disrupting day-to-day services. This has become a Rockford specialty. We ensure the community has access to the best available resources and services by staying current on trends, including specialized spaces and a community-centered approach.

Specialized Spaces

As communities expand and needs change, we must remain flexible in our approach. As part of an ongoing relationship with Beacon Hill at Eastgate in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Rockford recently completed phase two of the senior living community. The work included a four-story condo addition over the existing parking garage, expansion of the dining rooms, renovation of the club room and administrative office spaces, a 10,000 sq. ft. café addition, and a new 250-seat auditorium.

Repetition is easy, but by customizing each unit to residents’ preferences, we brought vibrancy and soul to the community. Once the resident selected a floorplan for their unit, all finishes were customized to their preferences. We met with each resident and Beacon Hill’s marketing team to price and order materials while keeping the project on schedule. A sequenced move-in process consisting of two condos each day took place while the project was still being completed.

We also worked to update the exterior spaces. Additions to the existing English gardens – including a new exterior fireplace, fountains, pergolas, and seating – helped further specialize the space.

Community Approach

We know sustainability exists in more than just design. In support of the communities in which we work, Rockford requests and facilitates the donation of used furniture and equipment to non-profit housing projects.

It’s hard to move out of comfort zones to think creatively. We bring this adaptability and efficiency to projects by looking for ways to cut time and costs without cutting corners. By challenging each other to find new and better ways to do things, we create a better experience for our clients and their community members.

Whether the project is a small, boutique living center or a 250-bed memory care community, the key to successful construction is having a firm grasp of the plans and specifications. Rockford has completed a variety of projects ranging widely in size and complexity. Our priority is creating the best project for our clients, so our clients can focus on their first priority – caring for residents.
